How it all began

Our Story

Tim and Sophie smiling beside an old stone wall

Like most modern love stories, our story started with a swipe right!

Tim immediately launched into message overload (some would say a little too enthusiastic), but luckily Sophie appreciated the effort - she has very little patience for time wasters (or people in general).

What Tim thought would be a casual first date quickly turned into a full-blown interview, complete with questions on life, values and anything else Sophie could think of. Somehow, he passed.

Three years later, we moved in together, and our family grew by one very fluffy member: baby Bailey Bloomer. Bailey has brought endless love, a lot of dog hair, and eventually decided Tim had kept Sophie waiting long enough. His advice? “Stop messing about and propose.” (Woof.)

So, on a beach in Weymouth, with Bailey there to supervise, Tim finally popped the question. The proposal was a success... if only Weymouth had got the memo to stock champagne!

Now, just over a year later, we’re planning our dream big fat Greek wedding, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate it with all of you. Greece is our favourite place in the world, so what better place to celebrate than there, surrounded by our favourite people? We can’t wait to see you there!

LET’S TALK GIFTS

Having you travel all the way to Athens to celebrate with us is more than enough of a gift – we really do mean that. But, if you'd still like to give us something, we'd be incredibly grateful for a contribution towards making some unforgettable memories on our honeymoon. You can find our Monzo bank details below:

Ten minutes, door to door

Vari, Athens Riviera

Getting to the venue

We recommend pre-booking an Uber or Bolt to get you there on time.

Whether you’re staying in Vouliagmeni or Vari, the journey will be no more than 10 minutes.

We’re looking into arranging a coach to take people back to Vouliagmeni at the end of the night; we’ll confirm closer to the time but again there will be taxis available if needed.

Three days of celebrations

Why celebrate for one day when you can celebrate for three!?

We can’t wait to celebrate with you, so we’ve planned a few extra get-togethers to make the most of our time in Athens.

  1. Long communal tables and woven chairs on the Rumors terrace at sunset

    Wednesday, 15th September

    Welcome Party

    7:30 PM onwards

    Rumors, Vouliagmeni

Let’s get the party started! Join us for cocktails, nibbles and a chance to meet everyone before the wedding.

  2. Tim and Sophie at the Island Athens Riviera, with the chapel and sea behind them

    Thursday, 16th September

    The Big Day

    Island Gallery, Vari

The reason we’re all here... time to get married!

  3. The Farewell Beach Day at a Greek beach club, sunbeds and umbrellas beside the Aegean sea

    Friday, 17th September

    Farewell Beach Day

    12:00 PM onwards

    Zen Beach Club, Vouliagmeni

Cure your hangover with some vitamin-sea. Stay for dinner, one last drink, and help us end the celebrations in style.

Getting to Athens

Come fly away…

Athens is closer than you think – the average flight from the UK takes just 3 hours 45 minutes.

Here are a few handy airport options:

Birmingham
Direct flights on Thursday & Sunday (Jet2)
Bristol
Direct flights on Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday (easyJet)
Manchester
2–3 direct flights a day, most days (various airlines)
London Heathrow
Around 9 direct flights a day, every day (various airlines)

Flight information supplied by us rather than a live timetable — please do check with the airline before booking.

You’re nearly there…

Once you’ve landed, you’re just a short journey from the celebrations.

Vouliagmeni
Around 14 miles from Athens Airport (approximately 25–35 minutes)
Vari
Around 11 miles from Athens Airport (approximately 20–30 minutes)

Getting from the airport couldn’t be easier. If you’re planning to explore, hiring a car is straightforward and affordable – we’d recommend Europcar.

But if you don’t fancy driving yourself, then grab an Uber or Bolt, they’re readily available throughout Athens.

You can also get a normal taxi from outside the airport.

Where to base yourself

Places to stay…

We’d recommend staying in either Vouliagmeni or Vari. Both are beautiful, just with slightly different vibes – so it all depends on how you’d like to spend your trip.

Lake Vouliagmeni framed by rocky cliffs and the blue Aegean coast

Vouliagmeni

If you’d like to be in the heart of the action, Vouliagmeni is the place to stay.

We’d recommend choosing somewhere within walking distance of Vouliagmeni Beach.

With its gorgeous beaches, lively atmosphere and fantastic restaurants, it’s the busier of the two areas.

It’s also where we’ll be spending most of our time together, so you’ll be able to stroll to the Welcome Party and the Farewell Beach Day.

Sunbeds and woven umbrellas on a sandy beach at a Greek beach club

Vari

Looking for something a little more laid-back? Vari is a great choice.

Accommodation here is generally more affordable, and the pace is a little slower.

While there are fewer restaurants, it’s a lovely spot if you’re after a quieter stay.

The best part? You’ll be able to walk to our wedding venue.

For the Welcome Party and Farewell Beach Day, you’ll just need a short taxi ride if you don’t have a hire car.

Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel and its private pools beside the Athenian Riviera

Where to sleep…

Hotels in the area are a little limited and can be on the pricier side. But if you’re feeling boujee and fancy treating yourself, we’d recommend:

  • Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel
  • Margi Hotel
  • Somewhere Vouliagmeni

For most guests, we’d recommend booking an apartment instead. There are loads of fantastic options on Booking.com and Airbnb, often offering better value and more flexibility for your stay.

Little black book

Our favourite spots…

We’ve spent a lot of time exploring this little corner of Athens, so here are some of our favourite places to eat, relax and soak up the sunshine.

Beaches & Beach Clubs

  • Royal Beach Club, Vouliagmeni

A great beach club with crystal-clear water and a lively atmosphere.

Around €10 per person entry, plus approximately €55 for two sunbeds and an umbrella.

  • Zen Beach Club, Vouliagmeni

Where we’ll be spending our farewell beach day!

Expect stylish surroundings, great food and drinks, and comfy sunbeds (around €55 for two beds and an umbrella).

  • Vouliagmeni Beach

Perfect if you prefer something a little more relaxed.

Entry is around €10 per person, and sunbeds and umbrellas are free if you can grab one - they’re first come, first served.

  • Holy Spirit Beach Bar, Vari

A more laid-back beach with a great beach bar.

Entry is around €5 per person, with two sunbeds and an umbrella costing approximately €20.

Prices are what we paid on our last visit — they may well have changed by the time you go.

Athens cityscape with the Acropolis and rooftops of Plaka

Worth exploring

Athens City Centre

Around 25–35 minutes by car from Vouliagmeni.

Wander through Plaka, visit the Acropolis, explore the markets or enjoy rooftop cocktails with incredible views.

Bar 360 is a must.

However, this can be an expensive taxi fare due to the traffic.

Lake Vouliagmeni

A beautiful natural lake that’s well worth a visit.

We’d recommend booking in advance before you travel, as it fills up quickly.
